Bringing home the kill
July 12, 2010 · Leave a Comment
I used these photographs about 6 years ago for a mock-up book on hunting. I wasn’t able to take the originals out of the library in order to scan them so i could only use the photocopier. This high contrast effect make the images of the hunters even more intense. The name of the photographer is nowhere to be found on any of these old copies, but i intend to find it and properly credit . . .

chatuchak market, the most recent findings
July 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Chatuchak market or JJ market is always oppressively hot and usually cramped with people, but challenges aside it is still one of my favorite spots in Bangkok. I had never been to the used books section in the far back corner of this HUGE market, but once I got there I knew I would be leaving with pile of paperbacks in my bag. Above are some my favorites out of everything I picked up. The last time I was there was late March of this year, a few weeks before the red shirts descended on the capital and decided to stay for over a month.

small treasures
June 29, 2010 · Leave a Comment
I am presently in my parents attic surrounded by all my possessions and playing the “keep, store, toss” game. After going through everything I’ve ever owned, throwing most of it away and then selling some . . . i’ve found a few small gems that have no category really but are just too good to discard and must be archived.

My palĀ Josh recently introduced me to Manh Hai’s collection of photographs, postcards and record covers from pre-war Vietnam. The collection is immense and awe-inspiring in its depth and variety. Above are some of my favorites.

the sabre 620 camera
June 29, 2010 · Leave a Comment
I bought the sabre 620 camera about 5 years ago in city island (mine looks pretty much like the image except avocado green) and have only shot one role of film on it in that entire time. Here are some shots from that one and only roll. Its been sitting in storage for almost 3 out of those 5 years so I’m going to make a point to experiment with it this summer while days are long and the light is bright.

books on plants
June 29, 2010 · 3 Comments
I’m just starting to post the beginnings of a scanning binge that has lasted over a month. These scans are courtesy of the Wenzel library. David Wenzel has an incredible collection of books and national geographic magazines in the basement of his home. Brendan Wenzel and I have barely scratched the surface of all of the hidden treasures down there . . . more scans to come.

birthday present
October 31, 2009 · 7 Comments
Turns out you can commission a painting of pretty much whatever you like if you happen to wander over to the backpacker district in Quarter 1. There are a plethora of painters-for-hire, most of which can complete most anything in the span of a week. Soooooo for my birthday, I was surprised with THIS! Apparently I am surrounded by my spirit animals . . . I now must find a frame that rivals the majesty of this painting.
