who’s that girl?

I found these in the same shops as the black and white portraits. I think she may have been a famous actress in the 60s . . . maybe chinese?

chatuchak market findings 2011 part 1

I made a deliberate trip to the the used book section of chatuchak market, Bangkok this past February. I skipped over the sweaty pets, vintage clothing and scorching curries so I could  snatch up as many books as i could carry to the metro. Here is an account of the loot,  separated into 4+ parts.

chatuchak market, the most recent findings

Chatuchak market or JJ market is always oppressively hot and usually cramped with people, but challenges aside it is still one of my favorite spots in Bangkok. I had never been to the used books section in the far back corner of this HUGE market, but once I got there I knew I would be leaving with pile of paperbacks in my bag. Above are some my favorites out of everything I picked up. The last time I was there was late March of this year, a few weeks before the red shirts descended on the capital and decided to stay for over a month.

rsvp to 1980

Commercial photography from 1980. Courtesy of the David Wenzel / Brendan Wenzel basement, definitely planning a trip to dig for more.

books on plants

I’m just starting to post the beginnings of a scanning binge that has lasted over a month. These scans are courtesy of the Wenzel library. David Wenzel has an incredible collection of books and national geographic magazines in the basement of his home. Brendan Wenzel and I have barely scratched the surface of all of the hidden treasures down there . . . more scans to come.

book of students?

I found this booklet of portraits in the back of a used bookstore, i think they may be students.

surf’s up

Who is this man?! I found these photos at a vintage bookshop recommended by a friend. There were at least 5 more of this man trying out seductive poses in the surf. He sometimes posed with kids, sometimes with other men. But i opted for the ones that had not one but yes . . . two sexy beach poses superimposed in a single shot.
