chatuchak market findings 2011 part 1

I made a deliberate trip to the the used book section of chatuchak market, Bangkok this past February. I skipped over the sweaty pets, vintage clothing and scorching curries so I could  snatch up as many books as i could carry to the metro. Here is an account of the loot,  separated into 4+ parts.

Matthew Monteith

Images from photographer Matthew Monteith‘s Monograph Czech Eden. I bought the book about a month ago and return to flip through it again and again. A new favorite.

Working Big

Working Big by John Lidstone & Clarence Bunch. Copyright 1975 by Litton Education Publishing Inc.

Summer Light

Taken this past summer with the Sabre 620. Most of them are out of focus with a light leak here and there, but when grouped together they feel like cool country evening in august.

Poodles

Found on the street walking by Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Apparently a good clipping turns your dog into a person. With boyfriends and “after bath” wear. A designer leopard print coat gets your poodle into restaurants. Copyright 1962. Amazing.

He’s also my boyfriend. So buy a print.

chunky sweaters

Thanks again to the New York Public Library Picture Collection. There are folders and folders of images simply titled “textiles”. These high res scans of woven sweater patterns immediately caught my eye.

picture collection: “light”

After perusing the Mid-Manhattan Library Picture Collection i found these in a folder simply labeled “light”.

Sabre 620 mysteries revealed . . . oops

This film has been sitting in the camera for almost 5 years . . . i finally got it developed today and found mostly light leaks and shaky accidents. Although none of the subjects are clear, the shots turned into happy accidents resulting in something between a ghostly encounter and a hazy daydream. Particularly the first composition . . .

Chinatown walk NYC

A saturday morning walk from brooklyn to chinatown . . . funny how I arrive in New York and go straight to Chinatown. It was comforting, I was even tempted to haggle on my purchases but i caught myself and paid the asking price.

Salons de Barcelona

I found this book at an outdoor market in Barcelona in 2007. Copyright 1984, all drawings by Aurora Altisent.

Bringing home the kill

I used these photographs about 6 years ago for a mock-up book on hunting. I wasn’t able to take the originals out of the library in order to scan them so i could only use the photocopier. This high contrast effect make the images of the hunters even more intense. The name of the photographer is nowhere to be found on any of these old copies, but i intend to find it and properly credit . . .
